The founder of the Directory of Social Change and fundraisers from charities both large and small were among those rewarded for their contributions to the sector at the Professional Fundraising Awards.
YouthNet won overall gold in the Fundraising Charity of the Year category for having developed profitable and sustainable income streams, while Crisis picked up overall gold in the Fundraising Campaign of the Year category for its Christmas Card Challenge that raised £1m.
“Using their powers of persuasion, creative ingenuity and strategic skills, these fundraisers have achieved results that reach much further than the bottom line,” said Becky Slack, editor of Professional Fundraising. “The impact of their work has resulted in their brands becoming much better known and respected, it has enabled them to build stronger relationships with supporters, while at the same time get new audiences excited about what they are doing.”
Michael Naidu won the Professional Fundraiser of the Year award and Maxine Blunden, director of fundraising at Help the Hospices won Rising Star.
The Outstanding Contribution award went to Michael Norton in recognition of his work as a fundraising trainer, author, social entrepreneur, activist and founder of many organisations including the Director of Social Change.
Ken Burnett, chair of the judging panel, said: “Many fundraisers in this room tonight may not have heard of the individual we are about to name. But they will certainly have felt the impact of their work. A fundraising trainer, author, social entrepreneur, activist and founder of many organisations that have contributed a great deal to the voluntary sector, this individual has been working tirelessly for the benefit of others for over 30 years.”
The results of PF’s annual quest to find the Most Influential People in Fundraising will also revealed at the award ceremony, with nfpSynergy’s Joe Saxton once again topping the poll.
The presentations were made at a champagne drinks reception at the Hilton Tower Bridge, London in front of 200 high profile guests.

I hope you will agree though that the survey in itself achieved huge publicity in February 2007. We have not had anything in the last two years which achieved so much media coverage – not by a very long way.
