Corporate Intelligence Monitor (CIM)
The Corporate Intelligence Monitor (CIM) was designed to help charities understand how they were seen by companies and corporate executive. It was started in 2002 and carried out three wave of quantitative and qualitative research until it was closed in late 2005.
The problem for the monitor was that corporate executives were noticeably unwilling to respond to our surveys (despite the £35 incentive) and so we had to do a lot of chasing to reach our survey response targets. One factor compounding our difficulty in reaching our quotas was that the participant charities were reluctant to part with the names of their corporate contacts. So we then had to buy in names and addresses.
Unlike our other monitors we were far from achieving a win/win situation (better value and lower cost for participants) we had a lose/lose scenario – we had to work twice as hard as any other monitor to deliver lower quality research.
The good news is we’ve learnt a lot about how we run monitors, have some unique survey and report research on companies and charities, and can focus our energies on the monitors that our clients are most interested in. And we can of course do some fantastic bespoke research about companies and charities as a result of the learning from the CIM.
